La radiothérapie, la radiothérapie ou l'oncologie radiologique, souvent abrégée RT, RTx ou XRT, est l'utilisation médicale des rayonnements ionisants, généralement dans le cadre d'un traitement anticancéreux pour contrôler ou tuer les cellules malignes. La radiothérapie peut être curative dans un certain nombre de types de cancer si elles sont localisées dans une zone du corps. Il peut également être utilisé dans le cadre d'une thérapie adjuvante, afin de prévenir une récidive tumorale après une intervention chirurgicale afin d'éliminer une tumeur maligne primaire. La radiothérapie est synergique avec la chimiothérapie et a été utilisée avant, pendant et après la chimiothérapie chez les cancers sensibles. La radiothérapie est couramment appliquée à la tumeur cancéreuse en raison de sa capacité à contrôler la croissance cellulaire. Le rayonnement ionisant fonctionne en endommageant l'ADN du tissu cancéreux conduisant à la mort cellulaire. Pour épargner les tissus normaux, les faisceaux de rayonnement façonnés visent de plusieurs angles d'exposition à se croiser à la tumeur, en fournissant une dose absorbée beaucoup plus grande que dans les tissus environnants et sains.

Radiation therapy, radiotherapy, or radiation oncology, often abbreviated RT, RTx, or XRT, is the medical use of ionizing radiation, generally as part of cancer treatment to control or kill malignant cells. Radiation therapy may be curative in a number of types of cancer if they are localized to one area of the body. It may also be used as part of adjuvant therapy, to prevent tumor recurrence after surgery to remove a primary malignant tumor. Radiation therapy is synergistic with chemotherapy, and has been used before, during, and after chemotherapy in susceptible cancers. Radiation therapy is commonly applied to the cancerous tumor because of its ability to control cell growth. Ionizing radiation works by damaging the DNA of cancerous tissue leading to cellular death. To spare normal tissues, shaped radiation beams are aimed from several angles of exposure to intersect at the tumor, providing a much larger absorbed dose there than in the surrounding, healthy tissue.
