Paul l'apôtre
Paul Apôtre, nom original Saul de Tarse, était un apôtre qui a enseigné l'évangile du Christ au monde du premier siècle. Il est généralement considéré comme l'une des figures les plus importantes de l'âge apostolique. Au milieu des années 30 au milieu des années 50, il a fondé plusieurs églises en Asie Mineure et en Europe. Paul a utilisé son statut de juif et de citoyen romain à l'avantage de son ministère auprès du public juif et romain. Quatorze des vingt-sept livres du Nouveau Testament ont traditionnellement été attribués à Paul, et environ la moitié des Actes des Apôtres s'occupe de la vie et des œuvres de Paul. Sept des épîtres sont incontestés par les érudits comme étant authentiques, avec des degrés divers d'argument sur le reste. La paternité paulinienne de l'Épître aux Hébreux, déjà doutée au 2ème et 3ème siècles, mais presque incontestablement acceptée du 5ème au 16ème siècle, est maintenant presque universellement rejetée par les savants. Les autres six sont considérés par certains érudits issus de disciples qui écrivent en son nom, en utilisant le matériel des lettres survivantes de Paul et des lettres écrites par lui qui ne survivent plus.
