Senussi
Le Senussi ou Sanussi se réfère à un ordre soufis politique et religieux musulman et une tribu en Libye et dans la région soudanaise fondée à La Mecque en 1837 par le Grand Senussi, Sayyid Muhammad ibn Ali as-Senussi. Les Senussi revendiquent une lignée directe vers le Prophète Muhammed. Senussi s'inquiétait à la fois du déclin de la pensée et de la spiritualité islamiques et de l'affaiblissement de l'intégrité politique musulmane. De 1902 à 1913, Senussi a combattu l'expansion française dans le Sahara et la colonisation italienne de la Libye à partir de 1911. À la Première Guerre mondiale, le Senussi s'est battu contre les Britanniques en Egypte et au Soudan. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, la tribu Senussi a fourni un soutien vital à la 8ème armée britannique en Afrique du Nord contre les forces allemandes et italiennes. Le petit-fils du Grand Senussi est devenu roi Idris de Libye en 1951. En 1969, le roi Idris, j'ai été renversé par un coup militaire dirigé par le colonel Muammar Kadhafi. Un tiers de la population en Libye continue d'être affilié au mouvement Senussi.
