La couleur rouge sous-jacente à la peau devient plus visible, surtout dans le visage, lorsque, en conséquence de l'exercice physique ou de la stimulation du système nerveux, les artérioles se dilatent. Il existe une corrélation directe entre la répartition géographique du rayonnement UV et la distribution de la pigmentation indigène de la peau dans le monde.
