Les régimes de retraite des parties prenantes ont été introduits au Royaume-Uni le 6 avril 2001 en conséquence de la loi de 1999 sur la réforme du bien-être et la retraite. Ils visaient à encourager davantage d'épargne à long terme pour la retraite, en particulier parmi ceux dont les bénéfices étaient faibles à modérés. Ils sont tenus de respecter un certain nombre de conditions énoncées dans la législation, y compris un plafonnement des charges, des contributions minimales minimales et une flexibilité en ce qui concerne l'arrêt et le démarrage des contributions.
