Thermotaxis
Le thermotaxis est un comportement dans lequel un organisme dirige sa locomotion vers le haut ou vers le bas d'un gradient de température. La recherche de laboratoire a déterminé que certains moules de boue et petits nématodes peuvent migrer dans des gradients de température incroyablement peu profonds inférieurs à 0,16 cm / cm et parfois aussi bas que 0,001 c / cm. L'analyse théorique indique que même cet exploit impressionnant est loin de pousser les limites fixées par le bruit thermique. L'environnement naturel contient toujours des gradients de température auxquels les organismes pourraient répondre, si cela leur était utile. La réponse de la moisissure et du nématode est compliquée et pensée pour permettre de progresser vers un niveau approprié dans le sol. Des recherches récentes suggèrent que les spermatozoïdes de mammifères utilisent la thermotaxie pour se déplacer vers un emplacement approprié dans l'oviducte de la femelle.
