Le couple, le moment ou le moment de la force est la tendance d'une force à faire pivoter un objet autour d'un axe, d'un pivot ou d'un pivot. Tout comme une force est une poussée ou une traction, un couple peut être considéré comme une torsion vers un objet. Mathématiquement, le couple est défini comme le produit transversal du vecteur de distance levier-bras et du vecteur de force, qui tend à produire une rotation. Le symbole du couple est typiquement τ, la lettre grecque tau. Lorsque l'on appelle le moment, il est habituellement désigné par M. La grandeur du couple dépend de trois grandeurs: la force appliquée, la longueur du bras de levier reliant l'axe au point d'application de la force et l'angle entre le vecteur de force et le Bras de levier.
