Système de supervision
À l'Université de Cambridge et à l'Université d'Oxford, les étudiants de premier cycle et certains diplômés sont enseignés dans le système de tutorat. Les étudiants sont enseignés par des membres de la faculté en groupes de un à trois sur une base hebdomadaire. À Cambridge, on parle de «supervisions» et, à Oxford, on appelle les «tutoriels». L'un des avantages du système de tutorat est que les étudiants reçoivent des commentaires directs sur leurs essais hebdomadaires ou travaillent dans un petit cadre de discussion. L'Université de Buckingham a également conservé le système de tutorat hebdomadaire lorsqu'il a été mis en place en tant que première université privée d'Angleterre dans les années 1970. Les didacticiels des élèves sont généralement plus exigeants sur le plan scolaire et rigoureux que les cours standard de cours et de cours de test, car lors de chaque session, les élèves doivent communiquer, défendre, analyser et critiquer oralement les idées des autres ainsi que leurs propres conversations avec le tuteur et les collègues -élèves. En tant que modèle pédagogique, le système de tutorat a une grande valeur car il crée des possibilités d'apprentissage et d'évaluation qui sont très authentiques et difficiles à falsifier.
