Działalność muzyczna grupy przypada na lata siedemdziesiąte i początek lat osiemdziesiątych. Przyjęta w 1973 roku nazwa zespołu jest akronimem utworzonym z pierwszych liter imion wokalistów. Zespół ABBA uważany jest za jedną z bardziej znaczących na rynku oraz kasowych formacji muzycznych w historii, sprzedał ponad 300 milionów płyt na całym świecie. W 1974 roku grupa wygrała 19. Konkurs Piosenki Eurowizji z przebojem „Waterloo”, zapewniając Szwecji pierwsze zwycięstwo w historii konkursu oraz zostając najpopularniejszym uczestnikiem imprezy. 5 lipca 2008 roku członkowie zespołu spotkali się i pozowali wspólnie do zdjęć przy okazji szwedzkiej premiery filmu opartego na musicalu Mamma Mia!, którego scenariusz inspirowany był największymi przebojami utworami grupy.
