Atom

Atome - la substance de base de la matière. Il se compose d'un petit noyau de haute densité chargé positivement et d'un nuage d'électrons environnant avec une charge électrique négative. Le mot atome vient du grec ἄτομος - átomos, signifiant quelque chose qui ne peut pas être coupé ou divisé. L'idée de l'existence de composantes indivisibles de la matière est déjà apparue dans les écrits des anciens philosophes indiens et grecs. Aux XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles, les chimistes ont confirmé ces hypothèses, en identifiant les éléments chimiques, et en montrant qu'ils réagissent les uns avec les autres dans des proportions strictement définies. Au dix-neuvième siècle, les mouvements de Brown ont été découverts, une preuve indirecte de la granulation de la matière. Au début du vingtième siècle, les physiciens ont examiné la structure interne des atomes, montrant qu'ils sont divisibles. Les théories de la mécanique quantique ont permis de créer des modèles mathématiques de l'intérieur d'un atome. Les atomes ont une taille de 10-10 m et une masse de 10-26 kg. Ils peuvent être observés par un microscope à effet tunnel. Plus de 99,9% de la masse de l'atome est contenue dans son noyau.

Atom – podstawowy składnik materii. Składa się z małego dodatnio naładowanego jądra o dużej gęstości i otaczającej go chmury elektronowej o ujemnym ładunku elektrycznym. Słowo atom pochodzi z greckiego ἄτομος – átomos, oznaczającego coś, czego nie da się przeciąć ani podzielić. Idea istnienia niepodzielnych składników materii pojawiła się już w pismach starożytnych filozofów indyjskich i greckich. W XVII i XVIII wieku chemicy potwierdzili te przypuszczenia, identyfikując pierwiastki chemiczne i pokazując, że reagują one ze sobą w ściśle określonych proporcjach. W XIX wieku odkryto ruchy Browna, będące pośrednim dowodem ziarnistości materii. Na początku XX wieku fizycy zbadali wewnętrzną strukturę atomów, pokazując tym samym, że są one podzielne. Teorie mechaniki kwantowej pozwoliły stworzyć matematyczne modele wnętrza atomu. Atomy mają rozmiary rzędu 10−10 m i masę rzędu 10−26 kg. Można je obserwować przez skaningowy mikroskop tunelowy. Ponad 99,9% masy atomu jest zawarte w jego jądrze.
