Thor

Thor - l'un des principaux dieux de la dynastie des As des Nordiques, l'équivalent du Donar de l'Allemagne du Sud. Dieu du tonnerre et de l'éclair, dieu des forces vitales, dieu de l'agriculture, porteur de la pluie responsable de la naissance, patronnait aussi le feu de la maison et le mariage. Fils d'Odin et Jörd, épouse Sif. Thor était considéré comme un dieu plus favorable aux humains qu'Odin - il est tout aussi violent, mais moins mystérieux. Il était habituellement représenté avec une longue barbe rouge et un marteau à la main - un symbole de sa force. Thor était le chêne. Il a voyagé avec un char conduit par des chèvres. Il n'était pas aussi rusé qu'Odin et il était tombé dans le piège, mais finalement il a toujours gagné. Au crépuscule des dieux, Thor va tuer le Serpent de Midgard, le grand Jormunganda, mais il sera empoisonné par son venin. Son nom est dérivé des noms norvégien, danois, suédois, finnois, néerlandais, allemand et anglais ancien, ainsi que l'anglais moderne = «Thora Day».

Od jego imienia pochodzi nazwa czwartku w języku norweskim, duńskim, szwedzkim, farerskim fińskim, holenderskim, niemieckim i staroangielskim oraz współczesnym angielskim = 'dzień Thora'.
