Sou

Il Sou, storicamente anche Sol, è un'ex moneta francese e moneta francese. Il nome risale alla moneta d'oro romana Solidus. Nel sistema di monete carolingi, un sol corrispondeva a dodici denari o al ventesimo di un Livre. Il Sol rimase una pura valuta di conto fino a che, nel 1266, fu coniata per la prima volta sotto forma di grand tournois come moneta d'argento. Nel corso del 17/18 La forma "Sou" ha sostituito il vecchio "Sol". Influenzato dall'inflazione, il Sou era solo una moneta di rame all'epoca della rivoluzione francese. Quando il franco francese sostituì il Livre nel 1795, il Sou scomparve come il nome ufficiale della moneta, ma fu usato per contrassegnare il quinto centime fino al secolo XX. Oggi Sou è ancora usato come sinonimo di denaro in molte presentazioni francesi.

Im Karolingischen Münzsystem entsprach ein Sol zwölf Deniers oder dem Zwanzigstel eines Livre. Der Sol blieb zuerst eine reine Rechnungswährung, bis er 1266 erstmals in Form des gros tournois als Silbermünze geprägt wurde. Im Verlauf des 17./18. Jahrhunderts verdrängte die Form „Sou“ das ältere „Sol“. Bedingt durch die Inflation war der Sou zur Zeit der Französischen Revolution nur noch eine Kupfermünze. Als 1795 der französische Franc das Livre ablöste, verschwand der Sou als offizielle Währungsbezeichnung, er wurde aber bis weit ins 20. Jahrhundert hinein zur Bezeichnung des 5-Centime-Stücks benutzt. Heute wird Sou noch in vielen französischen Redewendungen als Synonym für Geld verwendet.
