Senna alexandrina
Senna alexandrina è una pianta ornamentale nel genere Senna. Viene usato in erboristeria. Cresce nativamente nell'Egitto superiore, specialmente nella regione nubiana, e nei pressi di Khartoum, dove viene coltivato commercialmente. È anche cresciuto altrove, in particolare in India e in Somalia. L'Alexandrian Senna è una pianta arbustiva che raggiunge 0,5-1, raramente due metri di altezza, con uno stelo eretto ramificato, pallido-verde e lunghe ramificazioni che portano quattro o cinque coppie di foglie. Queste foglie formano coppie complesse, pennacchi e reciproche. I volantini variano da 4 a 6 coppie, completamente bordati, con una punta tagliente. I midrib sono equamente divisi alla base dei volantini. I fiori sono in un fiore interiore raceme, di grandi dimensioni, giallo colorato che tende a bruno. I suoi frutti di legumi sono corni, largamente oblunghi, compressi e piatti e contengono circa sei semi. Quando vengono coltivate, le piante vengono tagliate semilevolmente, essiccate al sole, spogliate e confezionate in sacchetti di foglie di palma. Quindi vengono mandati sui cammelli a Essouan e Darao, poi sul Nilo al Cairo oppure verso i porti del Mar Rosso. Per esempio, per il nomade Ababda, il commercio di senna fornisce una significativa fonte di reddito.
