L'apostasia (/ əpɒstəsi /; greco: ἀποστασία (apostasia), "una defezione o rivolta") è la disaffiliazione formale da o abbandono o rinuncia a una religione da parte di una persona. Chi commette l'apostasia (o che apostatizza) è conosciuto come un apostato. Il termine apostasia è usato dai sociologi per significare la rinuncia e la critica, o l'opposizione, all'antica religione di una persona, in senso tecnico e senza connotazione pejorativa. Il termine viene usato anche metaforicamente per riferirsi alla rinuncia a una credenza o alla causa non religiosa, come un partito politico, la fiducia del cervello o una squadra sportiva. L'apostasia non è generalmente un'auto-definizione: pochissimi ex credenti si chiamano apostati a causa delle implicazioni pejorative del termine.
