Una razza è un gruppo specifico di animali domestici o piante aventi un aspetto omogeneo, un comportamento omogeneo o altre caratteristiche che lo distinguono da altri animali o piante della stessa specie e che sono state ottenute attraverso l'allevamento selettivo. Quando si allevano insieme, gli animali della stessa razza passano su questi tratti prevedibili alla loro prole, e questa capacità - nota come "allevamento vero" è un requisito per una razza. Le razze vegetali sono più comunemente conosciute come cultivar.
