Il cacomistolo, Bassariscus sumichrasti, è un membro notturno, arboreto e omnivoro della famiglia carnivora Procyonidae. I suoi habitat preferiti sono boschi bagnati, tropicali, boschi sempreverdi e foreste di montagna, anche se stagionalmente si avventurerà in più secche foreste decidue. Nessuno nella sua gamma è B. sumichrasti comune. Questo è particolarmente vero in Costa Rica, dove abita solo una piccola area.
