Frameshift translazionale
Il frameshift transazionale o il ribosomale frameshifting si riferiscono ad un processo alternativo di traduzione della proteina. Una proteina viene tradotta da un'estremità dell'MRNA all'altro, dall'estremità 5 'al 3'. Normalmente una proteina viene tradotta da una mRNA di template con blocchi consecutivi di 3 nucleotidi che vengono letti come amminoacidi singoli. Tuttavia, alcuni organismi possono presentare una modifica o un cambiamento nella struttura dei ribosomi da uno o due nucleotidi quando si traduce il codice genetico. Ciò è considerato traslazione o ribosomica frameshifting. Il processo può essere programmato dalla sequenza nucleotide dell'MRNA e talvolta è influenzata dalla struttura mRNA secondaria o terziaria. È stato descritto principalmente nei virus, nei retrotrasposoni e negli elementi di inserzione batterica e anche in alcuni geni cellulari.
