Guar
Il guar o il fagiolo cluster è un legume annuale e la fonte di gomma guar. È anche conosciuto come Gavar, Guwar o fagiolo di Guvar. L'origine di Cyamopsis tetragonoloba è sconosciuta, in quanto non è mai stata trovata in natura. Si presume sia sviluppato dalla specie africana C. senegalesis. Era ulteriormente addomesticata in India e in Pakistan, dove è stata coltivata da molti secoli. Guar cresce bene nelle aree aride e semiaride, ma è necessaria frequente pioggia. Questo legume è una pianta molto preziosa all'interno di un ciclo di rotazione delle colture, in quanto vive in simbiosi con i batteri che fissano azoto. Infatti, gli agricoltori in regioni semiaride del Rajasthan seguono la rotazione delle colture e usano guar come fonte per ricostituire il suolo con fertilizzanti essenziali e fissazione di azoto, prima della coltura successiva.
