Hekla (Hecla), o Hecla, è uno stratovolcano nel sud dell'Islanda con un'altezza di 1.491 metri. Hekla è uno dei vulcani più attivi dell'Islanda; Nel corso del Medio Evo gli europei hanno definito il vulcano "Gateway to the Hell". Hekla fa parte di una cresta vulcanica lunga 40 chilometri. La parte più attiva di questa cresta, una fessura lunga circa 5,5 km lungo Heklugjá, è considerata il vulcano Hekla proprio. Hekla sembra piuttosto come una barca ribaltata, con la sua chiglia come una serie di crateri, due dei quali generalmente più attivi. Le eruzioni frequenti del vulcano hanno coperto gran parte dell'Islanda con tefra e questi strati possono essere utilizzati fino ad oggi le eruzioni degli altri volcanici islandesi. Il 10% della tefra creata in Islanda negli ultimi mille anni è venuto da Hekla, pari a 5 km3. Il vulcano ha prodotto uno dei più grandi volumi di lava di tutto il mondo nell'ultimo millennio, circa 8 km3.
