Le lapiti sono una leggendaria gente di mitologia greca, la cui casa era in Tessaglia, nella valle del Peneo e sulla montagna Pelion. Erano una tribù Eoliana. Come i Myrmidons e le altre tribù tedesche, i Lapith erano pre-grecoli nelle loro origini. Le genealogie li rendono una persona affrancata con i Centauri: in una versione Lapithes e Centaurus si dicevano di essere figli gemelli del dio Apollo e della ninfa Stilbe, figlia del dio del fiume Peneo. Lapithes era un guerriero valoroso, ma il Centauro era un essere deformato che poi si era coniato con le gorghe da cui proveniva la corsa di Centauri di mezzo e mezzo cavallo. Lapithes era l'antenato omonimo del popolo Lapith ei suoi discendenti erano i guerrieri ei re di Lapith, come Ixion, Pirithous, Caeno e Coronus, ei veggenti Idmon e Mopsus. Nell'Iliaia i Lapiti mandano quaranta navi a bordo della flotta greca nella guerra di Troia, comandate da Polypoetes e Leonteus.
