Mattutino
Matins è la liturgia di notte monastica, che termina all'alba, delle ore canoniche. Nel Breviario cattolico romano-pre-vaticano-II, è diviso in tre notti. Il nome "matins" si riferiva originariamente all'ufficio di mattina noto anche come lodi. Quando i servizi monastici notturni chiamati vigili o nocturns sono stati uniti con le lodi, il nome di "matins" è stato applicato in un primo momento al servizio di mattina conclusivo e più tardi ancora per tutta la serie di vigili. Nell'ortodossia orientale queste vigili corrispondono all'aggregato composto dall'ufficio di mezzanotte, dagli orti e dalla prima ora. Mattin, spesso scritta nella tradizione anglicana con un doppio "t", è la preghiera del mattino che ha consolidato le ore dei matini, le lodi e le prime. I luterani conservano riconoscibili matini tradizionali distinti dalla preghiera del mattino, ma "matine" vengono talvolta utilizzate in altre denominazioni protestanti per descrivere qualsiasi servizio di mattina.
