neurofibroma
Un neurofibroma è un tumore del nervo benigno nel sistema nervoso periferico. Di solito in individui con neurofibromatosi tipo I, una malattia geneticamente ereditaria dominante autosomica, possono causare una serie di sintomi dalla disfigurazione fisica e dal dolore alla disabilità cognitiva. Neurofibromi derivano da cellule Schwann di tipo non minelatinizzazione che presentano inattivazione biallelica del gene NF1 che codifica per la neurofibromina proteica. Questa proteina è responsabile della regolazione del percorso di segnalazione della crescita cellulare mediata da RAS. In contrasto con gli schwannomi, un altro tipo di tumore derivante dalle cellule di Schwann, le neurofibromie incorporano molti altri tipi di cellule e elementi strutturali in aggiunta alle cellule Schwann, rendendo difficile l'identificazione e la comprensione di tutti i meccanismi attraverso i quali nascono e si sviluppano.
