Presupposto

Nel ramo della linguistica conosciuta come pragmatica, un presupposto è un'ipotesi implicita sul mondo o sulle credenze di fondo relative a un'espressione la cui verità è presa per scontata nel discorso. Una presupposizione deve essere reciprocamente conosciuta o assunta dall'affrontatore e dal destinatario affinché l'affermazione sia considerata appropriata nel contesto. Rimarrà generalmente un presupposto necessario se l'affermazione sia posta sotto forma di affermazione, negazione o domanda e può essere associata ad un particolare elemento lessicale o alla caratteristica grammaticale dell'espressione. Cruciale che la negazione di un'espressione non cambia le sue presupposizioni: voglio farlo di nuovo e non voglio ripeterlo, sia presuppongo che il soggetto lo abbia già fatto una o più volte; Mia moglie è incinta e mia moglie non è incinta entrambi presuppone che il soggetto abbia una moglie.
