Redstarts sono un gruppo di piccoli uccelli del Vecchio Mondo. Sono stati classificati in precedenza nella famiglia dei mughetto, ma sono ormai noti come fanno parte del Muscicapidae della mosca del Vecchio Mondo. Sono attualmente trattati in quattro generi, i veri redstarts di Phoenicurus, i genitori Chaimarrornis e Rhyacornis, e il meno conosciuto genere Hodgsonius. Questi sono uccelli insettivori di alimentazione a terra, la maggior parte dei quali hanno la coda rossa che dà al gruppo il suo nome; "Inizio" è il moderno riflesso inglese del medio inglese stert, Old Steort inglese, coda di un animale. La maggior parte delle specie è migratoria, con specie settentrionali come migranti a lunga distanza e più specie sud che spesso sono emigranti altitudinali che allevano ad alta quota e si muovono in basso in inverno. Sono piccoli insettivori, i maschi sono prevalentemente colorati in varie combinazioni di rosso, blu, bianco e nero, le femmine marrone chiaro con una coda rossa.
