La solarizzazione è un fenomeno della fotografia in cui l'immagine registrata in negativo o su una stampa fotografica è interamente o parzialmente invertita in tono. Le aree scure appaiono aree chiare o luminose che appaiono scure. Il termine è sinonimo dell'effetto Sabattier quando si riferisce a negativi, ma è tecnicamente errato quando viene utilizzato per riferirsi alle stampe. In breve, il meccanismo è dovuto agli ioni alogeni liberati all'interno del grano di alogenuri per esposizione che diffondono sulla superficie del grano in quantità sufficienti a distruggere l'immagine latente.
