La Subversion si riferisce a un tentativo di trasformare l'ordine sociale stabilito e le sue strutture di potere, autorità e gerarchia. Inoltre, è una forma di guerra relativamente poco costosa che non richiede grandi quantità di formazione. Una sovversiva è qualcosa o qualcuno che ha il potenziale per un certo grado di sovversione. In questo contesto, un "sovversivo" viene talvolta chiamato "traditore" rispetto al potere del governo.
