Tabriz (Persiano: تبریز, pronuncia (ascolta), Azerbaijani: Təbriz / تبریز) è la quinta città più popolata d'Iran, una delle capitali storiche dell'Iran e l'attuale capitale della provincia orientale dell'Azerbaigian. Si trova nella valle del fiume Quru e la sua altezza sul livello del mare è di circa 1.350 metri. Tabriz si trova in una valle a nord della lunga cresta del cono vulcanico di Sahand, a sud del monte Eynali. La valle si apre in una pianura che pende dolcemente verso l'estremità nord est del Lago Urmia, 60 chilometri a ovest. Con inverni freddi e estati temperate la città è considerata una località estiva. La popolazione stimata della città è di circa 3.000.000 basata sui risultati dell'ufficio di censimento iraniano. Tabriz è la quinta città più popolosa in Iran dopo Teheran, Mashhad, Isfahan e Karaj. Tabriz è un hub importante per le industrie pesanti, tra cui automobili, macchine utensili, petrolio e petrolchimica e produzione di cemento.
