Curare / kjuːrɑːriː / è un nome comune per diversi estratti vegetali avvelenati da alcaloidi di freccia originati dall'America centrale e meridionale. Questi veleni funzionano competitivamente e reversibilmente inibiscono il recettore della acetilcolina nicotinica, che è un sottotipo del recettore di acetilcolina trovato alla giunzione neuromuscolare. Ciò provoca la debolezza dei muscoli scheletrici e, se somministrata in una dose sufficiente, eventuale morte per asfissia dovuta alla paralisi del diaframma. Di questi tre tipi, alcune formule appartenenti al tubo curare sono le più tossiche, rispetto ai loro valori LD50.
