smídă (-de), s. f. –
1. Hățiș, desiș de pădure tînără. –
2. Despădurire, pădure tăiată. Origine necunoscută. Nu este probabilă
der. din
sl. sviteti „a scăpăra, a fulgera” (Cihac, II, 338, îl interpretează ca „pădure incendiată de trăsnet”). Cu atît mai puțin convingătoare este explicația bazată pe
ngr. σημύδα „mesteacăn” (Bogrea,
Dacor., III, 736;
cf. Scriban). Nu e sigur dacă-i vorba de un cuvînt identic cu cel anterior; poate are legătură cu
smirdar. –
