W zwykłym użyciu określenie "opinia" może wynikać z perspektywy osoby, zrozumienia, szczególnych uczuć, przekonań i pragnień. Może odnosić się do nieuzasadnionych informacji, w przeciwieństwie do wiedzy i faktów. Zbiorowe lub profesjonalne opinie są definiowane jako spełniające wyższe standardy w celu uzasadnienia opinii.
