Szkiełko to ogólny obszar wewnątrz pnia mózgu. Znajduje się pomiędzy układem komorowym a charakterystycznymi strukturami podstawy lub brzuszne na każdym poziomie. Tworzy podłogę śródbramka, podczas gdy tektum tworzy sufit. Jest to multisynaptyczna sieć neuronów zaangażowana w wiele nieprzytomnych ścieżek homeostatycznych i refleksyjnych. Tejmumum jest miejscem zlokalizowania kilku nerwów nerwowych czaszki. Jądra CN III i IV są zlokalizowane w części teganowej śródmózgowia. Zarodki CN V do VIII są zlokalizowane w tegumum na poziomie pons. Zarodki CN, IX, X i XII są zlokalizowane w tym, że są to jądra.
