grinda, mag. gerend(a), ngr. γρέντα. Este dublet al lui
grind, s. n. (banc de nisip; dună; colină, dîmb), din
sl. grędŭ, var. de la
gręda. Ambele cuvinte apar numai în
sl., cu sensul de „bîrnă”, dar trebuie să-l fi avut și pe cel de „banc de nisip”, care s-a păstrat, pe lîngă
grind, sb. greda (Berneker 348; DAR; după Skok 70,
grind provine din
sb. greda, al cărui fonetism nu pare posibil; pentru Diculescu 183, din
germ. medie de sus
grinte, cf. Scriban).

grindei, s. n. (ansamblul grinzilor; inima căruței; ax; arbore; esplanadă; dîmb), de la grind cu
suf. -
ei (după Cihac, II, 129, din
mag. gerendely; după Cancel 17, din
bg. grendelĭ; pentru DAR, dintr-un
sl. gręndelĭ).
Grindel, s. m. (peștișor, Cobitus barbulata) pare un
sing. reconstituit pe baza
pl. grindei (DAR; după Lacea,
Dacor., III, 752, din
săs. Grendel). – Din
rom. trebuie să provină formele
sl., care reprezintă etimonul nazalizat, cum sînt
bg. gri(e)nda (Capidan,
Raporturile, 222) și
rut. grynda (Candrea,
Elemente, 402).
