O oriole de Baltimore é um pequeno mirre icterídico comum no leste da América do Norte como um pássaro reprodutor migratório. Recebeu o nome da semelhança das cores do macho com as do brasão de Lord Baltimore. Como todos os oriolos do Novo Mundo, ele é nomeado após uma família não relacionada, fisicamente semelhante encontrada no Velho Mundo: o Oriolidae. Ao mesmo tempo, esta espécie e o oriole de Bullock, Icterus bullockii, eram considerados uma única espécie chamada oriole do norte. O oriole de Baltimore é o pássaro estadual de Maryland.
