O endosso em branco de um instrumento financeiro, como um cheque, é apenas uma assinatura, não indicando o beneficiário. O efeito disto é que é pago apenas ao portador - legalmente, transforma um instrumento de ordem ("pagamento ao pedido de (o beneficiário)") em um instrumento ao portador ("pagamento ao portador"). É um dos tipos de endosso de um instrumento negociável. É "um endosso consistindo apenas em uma assinatura e permitindo que qualquer parte na posse do item endossado execute uma reclamação". Um endosso em branco é um termo conhecido e aceito no mundo jurídico e comercial. Isso também é chamado de endosso em indícios em branco ou em branco. A ortografia predominante no inglês americano é endosso; a convenção minoritária, o endossamento, é encontrada em documentos americanos mais velhos, embora o artigo revisado do Código Comercial Uniforme sobre instrumentos negociáveis mantenha a ortografia mais antiga.
