Catecol
O catecol, também conhecido como pirocatecol ou 1,2-di-hidroxibenzeno, é um composto orgânico com a fórmula molecular C6H42. É o isómero orto dos três benzenodióis isómeros. Este composto incolor ocorre naturalmente em vestígios. Foi descoberto pela destilação destrutiva da catequina de extração de plantas. Cerca de 20 milhões de kg são produzidos sinteticamente anualmente como um produto químico orgânico básico, principalmente como precursor de pesticidas, sabores e fragrâncias. Catecol ocorre sob a forma de cristais brancos de penas que são muito rapidamente solúveis em água.
