Concanavalina A
Concanavalina A é uma lectina originalmente extraída do feijão, Canavalia ensiformis. É membro da família das lectinas de leguminosas. Ele se liga especificamente a certas estruturas encontradas em vários açúcares, glicoproteínas e glicolípidos, principalmente grupos de α-D-manosilo e α-D-glucosilo terminais, internos e não-seqüentes. ConA é um mitógeno de planta e é conhecido por sua capacidade de estimular subconjuntos de células T de mouse, dando origem a quatro populações de células T funcionalmente distintas, incluindo precursores de células T supressoras; Um subconjunto de células T supressoras humanas também é sensível a ConA. ConA foi a primeira lectina a estar disponível em uma base comercial, e é amplamente utilizada em biologia e bioquímica para caracterizar glicoproteínas e outras entidades contendo açúcar na superfície de várias células.
