Divergência
No cálculo do vetor, a divergência é um operador vetorial que mede a magnitude da fonte ou coletor de um campo vetorial em um determinado ponto, em termos de escalar assinado. Mais tecnicamente, a divergência representa a densidade do volume do fluxo externo de um campo vetorial a partir de um volume infinitesimal em torno de um determinado ponto. Por exemplo, considere o ar como aquecido ou arrefecido. O campo vetorial relevante para este exemplo é a velocidade do ar em movimento em um ponto. Se o ar for aquecido em uma região, ele se expandirá em todas as direções, de modo que o campo de velocidade aponte para fora dessa região. Portanto, a divergência do campo de velocidade naquela região teria um valor positivo, pois a região é uma fonte. Se o ar esfriar e contrair, a divergência tem um valor negativo, pois a região é uma pia.
