Duque
Um duque ou duquesa pode ser uma decisão monarca sobre um ducado ou um membro da nobreza, historicamente de maior posto abaixo do monarca. O título vem do francês duc, ele próprio do dux latino, "líder", um termo usado na Roma republicana para se referir a um comandante militar sem classificação oficial e, mais tarde, significar o principal comandante militar de uma província. Durante a Idade Média, o título significou primeiro entre as monarquias germânicas. Os duques eram os governantes das províncias e os superiores das contagens nas cidades e mais tarde, nas monarquias feudais, os pares de maior ranking do rei. Um duque pode ou não ser, ipso facto, um membro da pátria da nação: no Reino Unido e na Espanha, todos os duques são / também eram pares do reino, na França alguns eram e outros não, enquanto o termo não é aplicável aos duques de outras nações, mesmo quando existia uma instituição semelhante à da parceria. Durante o século XIX muitos dos menores estados alemães e italianos foram governados por Dukes ou Grand Dukes. Mas, atualmente, com exceção do Grão-Ducado do Luxemburgo, não há duques no poder.
