Interação Electroweak
Na física de partículas, a interação elétrica é a descrição unificada de duas das quatro interações fundamentais conhecidas da natureza: eletromagnetismo e a fraca interação. Embora essas duas forças pareçam muito diferentes às energias baixas de todos os dias, a teoria os modela como dois aspectos diferentes da mesma força. Acima da energia de unificação, na ordem de 100 GeV, eles se fundiriam em uma única força elétrica. Assim, se o universo estiver suficientemente quente, a força eletromagnética e a força fraca se fundem em uma força eletromecânica combinada. Durante a época eletromecânica, a força elétrica se separou da força forte. Durante a época quark, a força elelectora se dividiu na força eletromagnética e fraca. Para as contribuições para a unificação da interação fraca e eletromagnética entre partículas elementares, Abdus Salam, Sheldon Glashow e Steven Weinberg foram premiados com o Prêmio Nobel de Física em 1979.
