Eritromelalgia
A erritromelalgia, anteriormente conhecida como doença de Mitchell, acromelalgia, neuralgia vermelha ou eritemia, é um distúrbio de dor periférica neurovascular rara em que os vasos sanguíneos, geralmente nas extremidades ou mãos inferiores, são bloqueados episodicamente, tornando-se hiperêmicos e inflamados. Existe uma forte dor ardente e vermelhidão da pele. Os ataques são periódicos e geralmente são desencadeados pelo calor, pressão, atividade leve, esforço, insônia ou estresse. A erritromelalgia pode ocorrer como transtorno primário ou secundário. A eritromelalgia secundária pode resultar de neuropatia periférica de pequenas fibras de qualquer causa, trombocitose essencial, hipercolesterolémia, intoxicação por cogumelo ou mercúrio e algumas doenças auto-imunes. A eritromelalgia primária é causada pela mutação do gene SCN9A da subunidade α do canal de sódio com tensão gated. Em 2004, a eritromelalgia tornou-se a primeira desordem humana em que foi possível associar uma mutação do canal iónico à dor neuropática crônica; quando sua fisiopatologia foi inicialmente publicada no Journal of Medical Genetics.
