Frumenty
Frumenty era um prato popular na culinária medieval da Europa Ocidental. Foi feito principalmente de trigo cozido e rachado - daí o seu nome, que deriva da palavra latina frumentum, "grão". Receitas diferentes adicionaram leite, ovos ou caldo. Outras receitas incluem amêndoas, groselhas, açúcar, açafrão e água de flor de laranja. Frumenty foi servido com carne como um pottage, tradicionalmente com veado ou ocasionalmente marsopa. Também foi freqüentemente usado como uma sutileza. Durante vários séculos, frumenty fazia parte da tradicional refeição de Natal Celta. Na Inglaterra, muitas vezes foi comido no domingo maternal, o quarto domingo da Quaresma. Naquele dia, muitos servos foram autorizados a visitar suas mães e muitas vezes foram servidos a Frumenty para comemorar e dar-lhes uma refeição saudável para prepará-los para sua jornada de regresso.
