Huia
A huia foi a maior espécie de aves de capoeira da Nova Zelândia, endêmica da Ilha do Norte da Nova Zelândia. A sua extinção no início do século 20 teve duas causas primárias. A primeira foi uma cisão excessiva para adquirir peles de Huia para espécimes montados, que estavam em demanda mundial por museus e colecionadores particulares ricos. Huia também foi caçada para obter suas longas e impressionantes penas de cauda para decorações de chapéu localmente elegantes. A segunda principal causa de extinção foi o desmatamento generalizado das terras baixas da Ilha do Norte por colonos europeus para criar pastagens para a agricultura.
