A lei é um termo que não tem uma definição universalmente aceita, mas uma definição é que a lei é um sistema de regras e diretrizes que são aplicadas através das instituições sociais para governar o comportamento. As leis podem ser feitas por legislaturas através de legislação, o executivo através de decretos e regulamentos, ou juízes através de precedentes vinculativos.
