Línguas Mixe-Zoque
As línguas Mixe-Zoque constituem uma família de línguas cujos membros vivos são falados em torno do Istmo de Tehuantepec, no México. O governo mexicano reconhece três línguas Mixe-Zoqueanas distintas como oficiais: Mixe ou ayook com 188.000 falantes, Zoque ou o'de püt com 88.000 falantes e as línguas Popoluca das quais alguns são Mixean e alguns Zoqueanos com 69.000 falantes. No entanto, a diversidade interna em cada um desses grupos é excelente e o Ethnologue conta 17 idiomas diferentes, e a classificação atual das línguas Mixe-Zoquean por Wichmann conta 12 idiomas e 11 dialetos. Linguagens extintas classificadas como Mixe-Zoquean incluem Tapachultec, anteriormente falado ao longo da costa sudeste de Chiapas.
