Arctocephalus forsteri
Arctocephalus forsteri, também conhecido como o lenço de peles da Nova Zelândia ou o selo de pele do sul, é uma espécie de foca de peles encontrada em torno da costa sul da Austrália, a costa da Ilha do Sul da Nova Zelândia e algumas das pequenas ilhas do sul e a leste de lá. As colônias somente masculinas também estão localizadas na costa do Estreito do Cook da Ilha do Norte, perto de Wellington, e os vagabundos são encontrados até o norte da Nova Caledônia. A língua inglesa conhecida por Nova Zelândia é usada por falantes de língua inglesa na Nova Zelândia, e foca de pele do sul por falantes de inglês na Austrália. Embora as duas populações mostrem algumas diferenças genéticas, suas morfologias são muito similares e, portanto, permanecem classificadas como uma única espécie. Embora os selos parecem dócil, eles podem se mover surpreendentemente rapidamente e é aconselhável nunca se aproximar de uma fêmea com jovens ou entre um selo e a água, cortando sua rota de fuga para o mar.
