Parsec
Um parsec é uma unidade de comprimento astronômico usada para medir distâncias para objetos fora do Sistema Solar. Cerca de 3,26 anos-luz de comprimento, o parsec ainda é inferior à distância para a estrela mais próxima, Proxima Centauri, 1,3 parsecs da Terra. No entanto, a maioria das estrelas visíveis a olho nu no céu noturno encontram-se dentro de 500 parsecs do Sol. A unidade parsec provavelmente foi sugerida em 1913 pelo astrônomo britânico Herbert Hall Turner.
