Pegmatite
Um pegmatita é uma rocha ígnea holocristalina e intrusiva, composta de cristais de phaneritic de bloqueio geralmente maiores que 2.5 cm de tamanho; tais rochas são referidas como pegmatitic. A maioria dos pegmatites é composta por quartzo, feldspato e mica, com uma composição básica semelhante ao granito. A composição intermediária de Rarer e as pegmatites maficas contendo anfíbolo, feldspato de Ca-plagioclase, piroxeno, feldspatóides e outros minerais incomuns são conhecidas, encontradas em zonas recristalizadas e apophyses associadas a grandes intrusões em camadas. O tamanho do cristal é a característica mais marcante das pegmatites, com cristais geralmente com mais de 5 cm de tamanho. Foram encontrados cristais individuais de mais de 10 metros, e muitos dos maiores cristais do mundo foram encontrados dentro de pegmatites. Estes incluem, spodumene, microclina, berilo e turmalina. Da mesma forma, a textura e a forma de cristal dentro da rocha pegmatitica podem ser levadas ao tamanho e à perfeição extremos. O feldspato dentro de uma pegmatita pode exibir gemas exageradas e perfeitas, lamelas de exsolução e, quando afetadas pela cristalização hidratada, a textura gráfica macroscale é conhecida, com feldspato e quartzo intergrown.
