Uma placa de conspiração era um dispositivo mecânico usado pela US Coast Artillery para rastrear o curso observado de um alvo, projetar sua posição futura e derivar os dados não corrigidos sobre o azimute e alcance necessário para direcionar o fogo das armas de uma bateria para atingir alvo. Plotting boards deste tipo foram empregados pela Artilharia da Costa em 1905 e foram o principal meio de calcular os dados de disparo até a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Embora vários tipos diferentes de placas de plotagem tenham sido utilizados pela Artilharia Costeira ao longo dos anos, o exemplo descrito aqui é o Ploting Board de Whistler-Hearn, Modelo de 1904 que foi amplamente empregado pela Artilharia Costeira entre 1905 e 1925. Esta descrição é principalmente derivado de dois manuais do período, cada um dos quais deixa certos aspectos do projeto e uso do painel inexplicados.
