Redpoll
Os Redpolls são um grupo de pequenos pássaros passereis na família de passarinhos Fringillidae que apresentam marcações vermelhas características em suas cabeças. Eles foram anteriormente colocados no gênero Acanthis juntamente com as linnets e os twite, mas seus parentes mais próximos são na verdade os crossbills, que são colocados no gênero Loxia. O último gênero poderia ser combinado com Carduelis em um único gênero, para o qual o nome de Loxia teria prioridade. Mas isso implicaria mudar o nome de um grande número de espécies, e como suas adaptações e biogeografia são evolutivamente bastante peculiares, seria melhor reintegrar Acanthis em vez disso, incluindo apenas os redpolls. Existem várias formas muito diferentes de redpolls, que podem ser consideradas como algo de uma a cinco espécies. Estudos recentes tendem a apoiar três espécies, mas isso certamente não é definitivo. Todos os redpolls são espécies de floresta do norte, associadas a árvores de bétula. Eles são pequenos pássaros, marrom ou cinza-marrom acima e com um remendo vermelho da testa.
