Remanência
Remanência ou magnetização remanente é a magnetização deixada para trás em um material ferromagnético após o campo magnético externo ser removido. É também a medida dessa magnetização. Coloquialmente, quando um ímã é "magnetizado", ele tem remanência. A remanência de materiais magnéticos fornece a memória magnética em dispositivos de armazenamento magnéticos e é usada como fonte de informação no passado campo magnético da Terra no paleomagnetismo. O termo equivalente magnetização residual é geralmente usado em aplicações de engenharia. Em transformadores, motores elétricos e geradores, uma grande magnetização residual não é desejável, pois é uma contaminação indesejada, por exemplo, uma magnetização restante em um eletroímã após a corrente na bobina ser desligada. Onde é indesejável, pode ser removido por desmagnetização. Às vezes, o termo retentivity é usado para remanência medida em unidades de densidade de fluxo magnético.
